Recording & consent
Sotto turns what is said in the room into text, so it hears other people too. That comes with rules, and following them is your job. This page is a plain guide, not legal advice.
Classes
- Ask your professor. Many schools only allow students to record a class with the instructor's permission, or through an approved accommodation. Some ban it.
- Sotto will not use a course until you tell us why recording it is allowed: the professor said yes, the school records the class anyway, or you have an approved accommodation.
- Exams are off. Add exam dates to a course and Sotto will not start on those days. Never use it on graded work it isn't allowed for.
- Don't share or sell what you capture. Notes are for your own study.
Conversations and meetings
Sotto is built for lectures. In many places, including California and Pennsylvania, everyone in a private conversation must agree before it is recorded. Don't use Sotto on a private conversation without telling the people in it and getting their agreement.
Being open about it
The G2 has no camera and no recording light, so people can't tell. Tell them. If anyone asks you to stop, pause from the glasses' menu, and use "forget the last 5 minutes" on your account page if they ask for that too.
Outside the US
We are opening in the US, Canada and the UK first. Local rules apply wherever you are.
